The journey itself is a fun one. During the journey we gain many experiences, apply the lessons learned and try to transform what we have learned. With the ambition of making a school functional and improving the whole aspect of the school, this time a team of volunteers had reached the Janata Basic School of Naukhande village in Thaha Municipality. A program has been organized in this school on the occasion of World Environment Day supported by our partner ONGD FNEL, Luxembourg, as a a joint project of Being Youth and Shikharapur Community Learning Center, together with the participation of social work students of St. Xavier’s College, school cleaning, painting, tree planting, meeting with teaching staff, coordination with local level various activities have been done. All activities were completed in 2 days on June 7 and 8, 2022.
The above programs were o
rganized under the leadership of Niroj Shrestha, Program Manager of Shikharapur Community Learning Center and Manisha Basnet ,Program Coordinator of Being Youth. A meeting was also held with the participation of school staff, teachers and locals to draw pictures in the classroom, construct a garden, plant fruit trees and motivate the teaching staff. The program has also been fruitful for the social work students of St. Xavier’s College to be aware of the condition of schools in remote areas, to learn what kind of initiatives should be taken for the institutional development of the school and also to gain knowledge on how to put the lessons learned in the classroom into practice.
“We study in the campus of the capital. The subject we study is social work. We have to go to an organization to do social work on a weekly basis in connection with our studies. We have been doing social work internship in Shikharapur. In this trip we’ve got a new experience and learning too. We’ve made some contributions and we’ve had the opportunity to learn a lot about the state of rural schools and the community. The local ward chairperson and members attended the school and inaugurated the tree planting program. He also thanked the NGO representatives and volunteers who had come to his village from Kathmandu to help him gain experience. “We are thankful for the support of the people here. Our schools are very weak. We have not been able to provide adequate government support to all the schools even though we wanted to. The main objectives of the two-day program are to activate the school team, make use of the school land, make the classroom child friendly, provide training and motivation to the teachers, create a conducive environment for parents to move around the school.
“Shikharapur Community Learning Center has been entrusted with the responsibility of enhancing the capacity of Janata Basic School, especially teachers, parent motivation and development of school and local level relations. In the near future, we will try to get the members of management committee, newly elected representatives, school teachers and some core members of parents team involved in the model school exposure which will be based in Dakshinkali Municipality, including Shikharapur School and transform the learning from the visit into the same school. ” – Niroj Shrestha, Program Manager
Overall, it is our endeavor to transform the good practices that Shikharapur has been doing based in Dakshinkali Municipality in the school and local level and also to transform learning from those places into our field of work. The school is not only a closed house for the children but also an integral part of the community. It should be developed as a common platform of the community. It needs to be developed as a meeting place for teachers, staff and parents from time to time. We believe that school should be developed as a place where there should be a forum for debate and planning of social development and a forum for thinking about solving social problems. The program seeks to convey the message that the role of staff, teachers, parents and local level representatives is equally important for this. We are glad to have good coordination and support from all stakeholders in carrying out these activities understanding the common purpose and essence of the project of our partner organization ONGD FNEL and implementing organization Being Youth. यात्रा, मनोरञ्जन र सामाजिक सेवा
यात्रा आफैँमा एउटा रमाइलो पक्ष हो । यात्राका क्रममा हामीले धेरै अनुभवहरु हाँसिल गर्छौँ, सिकाइहरू अवलम्बन गर्छौ र सिकेका कुराहरु रुपान्तरण गर्ने प्रयास गर्छौं । एउटा विद्यालयलाई सक्रिय बनाउने, विद्यालयको सम्पूर्ण पक्षलाई सुधार गर्ने महत्वकांक्षाका साथ यसपटकको स्वयंसेवक समेतको टोली थाहा नगरपालिका नौखण्डे गाउँको जनता आधारभूत बिद्यालयमा पुगेको थियो । विश्व वातावरण दिवसको समेत अवसर पारेर यस विद्यालयमा कार्यक्रम गरिएको हो । ONGD FNEL, Luxembourg सँगको साझेदारीमा Being Youth, शिखरापुर सामुदायिक सिकाइ केन्द्रको संयुक्त आयोजनामा सेन्ट जेभियर्स कलेजका सामाजिक कार्यका विद्यार्थीहरुको समेत सहभागितामा विद्यालय सरसफाइ, रङरोगन, वृक्षारोपण, शिक्षक कर्मचारीसँग बैठक, स्थानिय तह संग समन्वय विविध-गतिबिधि गरिएको हो । २०२२ जुन ७ र ८ जम्मा २ दिनमा सबै गतिविधिहरु सम्पन्न गरिएका थिए ।
शिखरापुर सामुदायिक सिकाइ केन्द्रका कार्यक्रम व्यवस्थापक तथा निरोज श्रेष्ठ Being Youth का कार्यक्रम संयोजक मनिषा बस्नेतको नेतृत्वमा माथिका कार्यक्रमहरु आयोजना गरिएको थियो । विद्यालयका कर्मचारी, शिक्षक तथा स्थानीय तह सबैको सहभागितामा विशेषगरी विद्यालयमा विद्यार्थी आकर्षित हुने गरी कक्षाकोठामा चित्रहरू कोर्ने, करेसाबारी निर्माण, फलफूल बोटबिरुवा वृक्षारोपण, तथा शिक्षक कर्मचारीहरुलाई उत्प्रेरणा गर्ने खालको बैठक पनि सञ्चालन गरेको थियो । सेन्ट जेभियर्स कलेजका सामाजिक कार्यका विद्यार्थीहरुलाई पनि दुर्गम क्षेत्रका विद्यालयको अवस्था अवगत हुने, विद्यालयको संस्थागत विकासको लागि कस्तो किसिमको पहलकदमी लिनु पर्छ भन्ने सिकाई हुने र कक्षाकोठामा पढेको पढाइलाई व्यवहारमा कसरी उतार्ने भन्ने ज्ञान हासिल गर्न समेत यो कार्यक्रम फलदायी सावित भएको छ ।

स्थानीय वडा अध्यक्ष तथा सदस्यहरु विद्यालयमा आफैं उपस्थित भई वृक्षारोपण कार्यक्रमको शुभारम्भ गर्नुभएको थियो । साथै आफ्नो गाउँमा काठमाडौंदेखि यात्रा गरी सहयोग गरेर अनुभवका गर्न आउनुभएका संघसंस्था प्रतिनिधि तथा स्वयंसेवकहरुलाई धन्यबाद समेत दिनुभएको थियो । “यहाँहरुको सहयोगको लागि हामी कृतज्ञ छौं । हाम्रा विद्यालयहरु धेरै कमजोर छन् । हामीले चाहेर पनि सबै विद्यालयमा यथेष्ट सरकारी सहयोग गर्न सकेका छैनौ तर यहाँहरुले हाम्रा विद्यालयलाइ माया गरेर यहाँ सम्म आइ सहयोग गर्नुभयो आवश्यक ठाउँमा सहयोग गरी विद्यालयलाइ उत्प्रेरणासमेत गर्नुभएकोमा हामी धन्यवाद दिन चाहन्छौं । विद्यालयको निरन्तर विकासका लागि हामी वडाका तर्फबाट निरन्तर प्रयासरत रहने छौं ।“ – टिकाराम स्याङतान, वडा अध्यक्ष, थाहा नगरपालिका
दुईदिने यस कार्यक्रमको मुख्य उद्देश्य भनेको विद्यालयको कार्यटोलीलाई सक्रिय बनाउने, विद्यालयको भएका जग्गा जमिनको उपयोग गर्ने, कक्षा कोठालाई बालमैत्री बनाउने, शिक्षक शिक्षिकालाई तालिम तथा उत्प्रेरणा दिलाउने, अभिभावकहरूलाई विद्यालयमा आवतजावत गर्ने वातावरण बनाउने विद्यालयमा रहेको खाजा कार्यक्रमलाइ थप व्यवस्थित गर्ने र यसका लागि विद्यालयमै तरकारी फलफूल उत्पादन गर्ने भन्ने रहेको छ ।

समग्रमा शिखरापुरले दक्षिणकाली नगरपालिकामा आधारित रहेर गर्दै आएको असल अभ्यासहरु उक्त विद्यालय तथा स्थानीय तहमा रुपान्तरण गर्ने र सो स्थानहरुबाट पनि सिकाइ हाम्रो कार्यक्षेत्रमा रुपान्तरण गर्ने हाम्रो प्रयास हो । विद्यालय भनेको बालबालिकालाइ पढाउने एउटा बन्द घर मात्र नभइ यो समुदायको एउटा अभिन्न अग हो । समुदायको साझा चौतारीका रुपमा यसको विकास हुनु पर्छ । शिक्षक कर्मचारी अभिभावकहरुको बेलाबेलामा भेटघाट हुने स्थानका रुपमा विकास हुन जरुरी छ । सामाजिक विकासको बहस र योजना गर्ने थलोको रुपमा र सामाजिक समस्या हल गर्ने चिन्तनको थलो बन्नु पर्छ भन्ने हाम्रो मान्यता हो । यसका लागि कर्मचारी शिक्षक अभिभावक तथा स्थानीय तहका प्रतिनिधि तीनै पक्षको उत्तिकै भूमिका हुन्छ भन्ने सन्देश यो कार्यक्रमबाट दिन खोजिएको छ । हाम्रो साझेदार सस्था ONGD FNEL र परियोजना सञ्चालन गर्ने Being Youth को साझा उद्देश्य र मर्म बुझी शिखरापुर सामुदायिक सिकाइ केन्द्रबाट यी गतिविधिहरु भइरहेकोमा सबै पक्षबाट राम्रो समन्वय र सहयोग भएकोमा हामी खुशी ब्यक्त गर्दछौ । र यस किसिमको सहकार्य र साझेदारीबाट विद्यालयको निकट भविष्यमै रुपान्तरण हुनेछ र बालबालिकाका लागि एउटा राम्रो शैक्षिक गन्तव्य बन्नेछ भन्ने हाम्रो आशा एवम् विश्वास रहेको छ ।
