From the perspective of Nepal, there are many examples of students being deprived of going to school due to many social reasons. Even in the 21st century, education has not developed well in our society. It is concluded that our country has fallen behind as a whole due to this reason. The Nepal government’s basic right of free education and access to education has not been realized in reality. Alternative schools have been established by the government for those who have stopped going to school due to economic, social and political reasons. Many such schools are only in name. But Shikharapur Open School has been established as an example of the country. Shikharapur Community School is a mother school in this school, there is a provision of free study.
Since its inception, 605 participants from more than 16 districts, including those with different abilities, including a 78-year-old grandmother, have passed class 10. This year, Hari Prasad Budhathoki, a resident of Dakshinkali Municipality Ward No. 1, who cannot use both hands, has passed the SEE by writing with his feet. Chhiring Bal of Indrasarovar Rural Municipality Fakhel, who cannot move both his legs, passed the written exam sitting in a wheel chair. Arrangements were made for him to stay at Arunodaya School Examination Center in Pharping throughout the examination period. This year, 36 participants with different abilities have passed SEE, most of them are women from Indrasarowar Rural Municipality, especially from Tamang community.
Due to the success of free studies by the economically disadvantaged and deprived basic level participants, the Minister of Education, Science and Technology Hon’ble Devendra Paudel himself attended and honored the passed participants. He also expressed his commitment to support the physical and technical development of the open school in the near future. The program was attended by Member of Parliament Hon’ble Anjana Bisunke, Mayor Mohan Basnet of Dakshinkali Municipality, Deputy Mayor Basanti Dangol Tamang, Chairpersons of various wards, school principals, well-wishers, and teachers. Mayor Basnet said that the honored participants will be given cash scholarships very soon on behalf of Municipality.
Shikharapur Open School said that in the coming days, it will open the doors of higher education to the participants who are deprived of this opportunity, and will take the initiative of CTEVT to develop more skills and abilities, and also conduct various trainings and conduct classes in a technology-friendly manner.
