Reusable Washable Sanitary Pad

Reusable Sanitary pads are type of pads that can be washed and reused. Unlike disposable pads, they do not contain any unhealthy chemicals that absorb fluids and reduce sweat. Reusable Sanitary pad is unique and innovative; it can be made from locally available second hand clothing materials which are readily available in the local market in short period of time.

Shikharapur Community Learning Center (SCLC) has brought a program to produce reusable washable sanitary pad by using local resource persons. The main objective of the program is to reduce the health complications and infections due to the chemicals used in pads as well as to reduce expenditure of women on menstrual hygiene products and save money by not having to buy pads every month. This program also helps to provide employment to local people by giving training to them from skillful people which helps in growing this business.

The pads are made up of soft cotton cloth to reduce irritation and itching, inside it 8-9 layers of cotton is used to absorb the liquid, Polyester fabric to reduce leakage and can be attached to underwear via wings with small clips.

Mrs Karuna Sunar a women entrepreneur is making the reusable pad and cloth mask in SCLC. She got training with the financial support of SCLC and technical support of Wine to Water Nepal. She is involved in household work before, now she got the opportunity to involve in entrepreneur from SCLC. She was able to support her family financially.  She was hoping to continue this work as business in future.
