Shikharapur Open School is a government entity, legally established as an institution to provide alternative educational service for school dropouts. Shikharapur Community School is mother school for this open school. Currently, the school has been providing services of Basic Level Open Education (Grade 8 Level). In this level, those students or participants who have passed grade 5, could join. While in Secondary Level Open Learning (Grade 10), participants who have succeeded grade 8 at least 2 years earlier could join. Both programs are provided free for participants. Participants from Indrasarowar Rural Municipality, even from Kathmandu City come to this school for not having such schools in operation in their area. The program is equivalent as regular school program.
