Supporting youths to learn and start entrepreneurship based in resources that are available in Nepal.
As the country lacks livelihood and employment opportunities, labor out-migration rate in Nepal has been accelerating in the past few years. However, migrants face exploitation and health risks, and are detrimental to rural sustainability.
We work with youth to utilize local resources to develop entrepreneurship skills. The CLC established a farming school, housed in the Bottle House (add link to Utilizing waste glass bottles in construction) to support learning by doing, using local resources. Among the trainings offered include greenhouse and organic farming, cash crop cultivation, processing and packaging of farm products, computer classes, price monitoring and digital marketing. Some of our best-selling products with good prices include mushrooms and honey. We also occasionally organize vocational training courses via collaboration with Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training Nepal (CTEVT) to cultivate technical skills and expand livelihood opportunities among youth.
The school has sustained more than a dozen residential students and workers, who live, eat and generate their own income from the school land. These students are also attending formal and non-formal education for free in the Shikharapur community school and open school. In addition, we held regular training and sharing sessions with farmers from the district of Kathmandu and Makwanpur, and host students and interns from agricultural colleges.
