One of our most recent projects is the expansion of cattle farming in the Shikharapur Sustainable Farmers’ School. In our school, apart from vegetable farming, we also have a cow and a goat farm, as part of our income generation program. Cattle farming not only provides us with fresh milk and milk products daily, but also provides us manure that can be processed into fertilizers for our other farming endeavours. It promotes a way of living that recycles everything and produces little and no wastes.
In 2020, we have obtained 16 cows and a new cow shed complete with low-cost cow feeders, water management and waste management systems, hay cutters and cow mats. With these new installments, our students learn how to apply technologies to reduce labor requirement.
