On 9th March 2022, Shikharapur CLC organized a program ICH (Intangible Culture Heritage) which is supported by UNESCO .
Miss. Nisha Bisunke inaugurated the program with short introduction to ICH . Miss. Nipuna Shrestha and Miss. Nirina Sakhya officials of cultural department of UNESCO , Mr. Bhim Nepal cultural expert , Shyam Bahadur K.C chair person of Shikharapur , Prof. Dr. Ganesh Bahadur Singh Non-Formal educational expert , Mr. Niroj Shrestha Campus Chief graced the session .
Resource people showcased the expertise of knitting of |”Sukul” (similar to a mat), “Chakati”(similar to a cushion) and “Doko” (similar to a mat) which are made of hay and dried inner covers of corns . Youths observed the production of sukul and chakati which was the main objective of this session.
ICH was organized to showcase and teach the youths about such endangered skills which is going to extinct with the old generation. The concept and the principal of ICH was to transfer such skill based knowledge to newer generation and encourage them to be an entrepreneur with such product ,which also helps promote Nepali culture to the world .
The session started with the teaching and learning process about the making of the sukul and chakati . There were 15 learners who were guided by the resource people who were 8 in number. Groups were divided into different category of making these products (sukul , chakati and doko). The resource people went step by step of making the products in simpler language and instruction in the request of Mr. Bhim Nepal.
Mr. Bhim Nepal had some inquires about how such products can be introduced to the market , how it can be passed on to the upcoming generation and how it can be promoted , which was clearly answered by Mr. Niroj and Mr. Shyam .
They answered , “The first solution is by encouraging young youths to be involved in such activates and to add it in their curriculums as well. ” Not only that but also to produce it in a large quantities by bringing up better ideas such as replacing a plastic materials aka dustbins with products made of hay and corn covers. 3R’s (reuse ,recycle, reduce).
After providing the requested answers Mr. Shyam concluded it by adding more to Mr. Niroj’s points and answers. Also mentioned his personal feelings and things he experienced in the session.
