“Supporting school dropouts, mothers and deprived students to continue their education through open/alternative school system.”

As of 2018, UNESCO reported a steady increase in adult (>15 years old) literacy rate from 20.6% in the 1980s to 67.9% in 2018. However, gender parity persists with women literacy rate at close to 60% versus male literacy rate of 78.6%. Socio-economic poverty, geographical barriers, early marriages are among some of the reasons for dropping out of schools.

We have collaborated with the Non-Formal Education Center (NFEC) to support non formal/open school education since 2012. Many of our students are adult women who missed the opportunities for formal education due to early marriages. Others are youth from more remote areas who face geographic and economic barriers to access quality education.

Till date, 423 number of students, including 204 women and 219 school dropouts have received education via the CLC. 300+ number has passed the School Leaving Certificate. There are currently 47 regular students in three locations in our municipality. Some of our students are exposed to other technical training programs and farming education (add link to training leads to entrepreneurship) in our farming school (add link to producing healthy food for communities), housed in our Bottle House (add link to Utilizing waste glass bottles in construction).

We continue to come out with innovative approaches to support non-formal education and continuous education during the Covid-19 pandemic (add link to supporting community to combat Covid 19)
